St. Michael's Episcopal School

Extending the Day

St. Michael’s strives to meet the needs of children and families beyond the traditional school day. A number of scheduling options provide for care before and after-school and during school holidays.

St. Michael’s offers a Core Extended Day program at both the Lower and Middle Schools, with the mission of providing a safe and nurturing environment for students after the regular school day is over. We place particular emphasis on encouraging positive peer socialization, promoting healthy study habits, and providing space for learning and exploration to continue into the afternoon. New this year, our program will encompass social-emotional learning with monthly themes tying into our DRAGONS’ Values. Questions? Please contact Natasha Reed, Director of Extended Programs, at [email protected]

NOTE: To reach the Extended Day teachers during program hours, please call or send a text to the Extended Day cell phone (carried from 2-6 p.m.): 804-584-9667.

The first day for 2022-23 Extended Day is Tuesday, August 30. The last day for Extended Day is Friday, June 2.

New This Year: All families are expected to create an account on Active (see button below) and save a credit card to their student profile. For late fees, student accounts will be automatically charged within 2 business days of the late occurrence.

Free Before-School Care for K-8th Grade

St. Michael’s is pleased to offer free early morning care (referred to as Morning Gym) to all K-8 students from 7:20 to 7:40 a.m. in the Ellen Passmore Singleton Gym. No need to sign-up, just drop off children when it is helpful to you. Parents should pull into the gym parking lot and drop students in the green zone to be checked in with the staff members on duty. (For safety reasons, students arriving to School before carpool drop-off begins at 7:45 a.m. should report to Morning Gym, as supervision is not provided to arriving students before 7:45 a.m.)

Enrichment and Co-Curricular Activities

St. Michael’s believes that important learning also happens outside the classroom with purposeful exposure to a broad variety of activities and experiences. That is why our School offers inclusive co-curricular, robotics, and sports opportunities for our students.

These activities not only serve the needs and interests of our students but also help our families extend the day with enriching after-school activity options. From activities like fishing, golf, cooking, nature exploration, and art, to mountain biking, coding, drama productions, yoga, and an array of interscholastic and intramural sports, St. Michael’s offers a variety of fun and educational after-school experiences. St. Michael’s also partners with Greater Richmond School of Music to provide year-round private music lessons on campus. These lessons are scheduled and coordinated directly with GRSM.
