St. Michael's Episcopal School

Remote Learning

Our LEARNING CONTINUED, even during the pandemic

The Spring of 2020 was a truly unprecedented time as all Virginia schools were required to close their campuses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While St. Michael’s physical campus was closed from March-June 2020, St. Michael’s delivered upon our mission of superior academic instruction by providing our students with a robust and engaging remote learning program.
St. Michael’s believed that our students and families deserved nothing less.

St. Michael’s teachers engaged students in a vibrant remote learning environment that reflected our commitment to academic excellence and fostered a place where our School found new ways of connecting and creating with our students and families. Teachers focused on the areas of lesson development, knowledge sharing, and skill-building in ways that emphasized core concepts and discovery. The health and well-being of everyone in our community was our first priority which required us to think differently and re-set expectations as such.

St. Michael’s was proud to help and support our families through this transition to ensure our students thrived and succeeded. We continue to be incredibly grateful for the dedication, resilience, and “can-do” spirit that was exemplified by our faculty and staff during this historic and trying time.

St. Michael’s was pleased to return to on-campus academic instruction for the full 2020-21 school year.

Feedback on Our Spring 2020 Remote Learning Program

With abundant thanks, we are pleased to share that our Dragon families “filled our bucket” with many encouraging words about our Spring 2020 remote schooling.

""When I compare St M's Remote Learning approach to what I hear my friends are experiencing (in public K-12, private, and college), St M is really doing a fantastic job. It's clear that we've got a great leadership team who is planning for and supporting our teachers & community. And our teachers who pivoted from in-class instruction to something they'd never even dreamed of doing? And did it in a week?? I'm AMAZED. I've never been SO GRATEFUL for St M in all my life. You've all been putting in the effort and hard work, and IT SHOWS!.”

A St. Michael's Parent

"Reading through the material you all have spent hours creating in preparation for the beginning of remote learning, we are truly amazed at the thoroughness and guidance [St M has] provided. Thank you for the positive example you’re setting for our children, showing them (and us!) that no matter what circumstances we face, we’re all in this together and can learn and play and stay connected through it all.”

A St. Michael's Parent

"Thank you for providing, not only for my children but also our family, structure and comfort during a time of uncertainty. The consistency of learning and being with classmates and teachers online has been hugely beneficial to both my children. As a teacher myself, I know this has required a huge amount of work on the part of every single person. Please know that it is all appreciated. Even more important than the leadership and organization displayed is the love and care shown by all of the members of the St. Michael’s community. We are so proud to be Dragons!”
