St. Michael's Episcopal School

Extending the Day

St. Michael’s strives to meet the needs of children and families beyond the traditional school day. A number of scheduling options provide for care before and after-school.

St. Michael’s offers a Core Extended Day program at both the Lower and Middle Schools, with the mission of providing a safe and nurturing environment for students after the regular school day is over. We place particular emphasis on encouraging positive peer socialization, promoting healthy study habits, and providing space for learning and exploration to continue into the afternoon. Our program encompasses social-emotional learning with monthly themes tying into our DRAGONS’ Values.

NOTE: To reach the Extended Day teachers during program hours, please call or send a text to the Extended Day cell phone (carried from 2-6 p.m.): 804-584-9667.

MIDDLE SCHOOL Extended Day is available Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m. in the Middle School Allen Library. We offer 2-day, 3-day, and 5-day care options. Due to the vast co-curricular offerings at the Middle School (e.g., athletics, theater, etc.), enrollment in the Middle School Core Extended Day program is done seasonally (fall, winter, spring) rather than annually. The registration link will be sent directly to St M families.

Parents of students attending Extended Day who do not pick up by their contracted dismissal time will be charged a late fee of $25.00 per occurrence. Repeated late pick-up could result in further action at the discretion of the Director and the Head of School.

Free Before-School Care for K-8th Grade

St. Michael’s is pleased to offer free early morning care (referred to as Morning Gym) to all K-8 students from 7:20 to 7:45 a.m. in the Ellen Passmore Singleton Gym. No need to sign-up, just drop off children when it is helpful to you. Parents should pull into the gym parking lot and drop students in the green zone to be checked in with the staff members on duty. (For safety reasons, students arriving to School before carpool drop-off begins at 7:45 a.m. should report to Morning Gym, as supervision is not provided to arriving students before 7:45 a.m.)

Enrichment and Co-Curricular Activities

St. Michael’s believes that important learning also happens outside the classroom with purposeful exposure to a broad variety of activities and experiences. That is why our School offers inclusive co-curricular, robotics, and sports opportunities for our students.

These activities not only serve the needs and interests of our students but also help our families extend the day with enriching after-school activity options. From activities like fishing, golf, cooking, nature exploration, and art, to mountain biking, coding, drama productions, yoga, and an array of interscholastic and intramural sports, St. Michael’s offers a variety of fun and educational after-school experiences.
