2007-2008 Library News
Librarian Margaret Bell brings us up-to-date on the Birthday Book Program Dates and other Library News.
Library Volunteers
We invite you to consider becoming a library volunteer. Volunteers come to the library one or two mornings a month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. They assist in the library by carding and shelving books, cataloging new books, and implementing special projects for the library and our students. The program begins the first week in October and runs through May 2008. Volunteers come Tuesday through Friday of each week.
Library
The Louise Fontaine Powers Library is open to our students daily during school hours. The library’s goal is to support the mission of the school and development of the curriculum. The collection has been carefully chosen to encourage good reading and research skills. With over 20,000 volumes, every effort has been made to provide a collection that meets the varying needs and interests of a diverse body of students, teachers, and parents.
Lower School classes visit the library once a week. During this time there is instruction in the use of books and materials in the library, and opportunities for enrichment activities in children’s literature focusing on noteworthy authors and illustrators. Middle School students are free to visit the library individually, by class, or in small groups.
Recognizing the potential of the Internet for student research, St. Michael’s subscribes to the INETLibrary Internet service. This service provides thousands of rated websites, periodicals, and journals, and can be accessed at home. For login information, please e-mail our librarian, Margaret Bell. We encourage St. Michael’s families to use the service as a prime source for Internet research.
